Welcome
Welcome to the Publishing Futures website, created by Wide Area, the overall sponsor of the whole project. Wide Area and Wessenden Marketing worked closely with InPublishing magazine to produce this survey, because we felt that it was badly needed – to have a detailed and independent assessment of what is happening in publishing during a difficult time.
Other surveys provide a topline, macro view of the media business. The aim of this survey is to have a more detailed look specifically at the publishing industry, with all its peculiarities and special characteristics, as it faces both a cyclical recession and ongoing structural change.
187 publishing companies participated in the survey – thanks to all of them for sharing their data and views in confidence. Between them, these companies produce 911 consumer magazines, 855 B2B magazines and newsletters, 413 newspapers (both regional and national) and a total of 1,056 individual websites. The reach and scope of this project is unparalleled.
The survey results are held on this website in the subject sections listed below. Simply click on a link below or on a tab at the top of the page to go directly to that section. An introduction summarising each section is openly available, but you must then register in order to have access to the detailed results.
This website also allows you to enter current polls and to feed back your views and comments. So please take part in the biggest publishing industry project of its kind that the UK has ever seen. Should you want to contact me direct with any comments or questions, then simply email jim@wessenden.com.
